Yesterday, the federal court ruled that it is unlawful for The Pledge of Allegiance to be said in schools. This ruling will effect 9 western states if it actually goes into law.
An atheist in California doesn't want his 2nd grade daughters rights infringed. He doesn't want her to learn about religion in school. So he takes on our symbol of freedom - our flag and the pledge that was written to declare our devotion to it.
Luckily, because of the country he lives in, he has the right to do that. But we need to ask ourselves, what kind of a person would do that?
On September 11, 2001 our country was devastated by acts of terrorism.
In these terribly difficult times, how much of an infringement on ones beliefs is it to say that one word?
I'm not a Bible Beater by any means, but I certainly believe in God. I believe in a higher spirit and power. That is my belief. If someone chooses NOT to believe in that - I hold nothing against them. That is their right.
Some Suggestions for people that have a problem with that word - leave it out! Say everything but that. Or - IF - you believe in something else, or have another word for your God, replace God with that word.
But for pete's sake, don't take away our pledge. All that will prove is that you're an ass.
