Hard Edged - Jagged Edge - NO Edge

When Political Campaigns get ugly, that's when you begin to see candidates for what they really are.

The Illinois 2002 November elections are downright dirty.  Our race for Governor is a major battle between the parties.  The mud-slinging and accusations have been some of the worst I've ever seen.

I'm usually a democrat, but I have been known on occasion to vote republican.  I typically lean more toward the left than the right on certain issues.

This time, I'm staying clear of BOTH of them.

I am completely disgusted with the behavior of Rod Blagoavich , the democratic candidate, for one reason.  He actually thought it would help his campaign to bring up a terrible tragedy that occurred years ago when a family was killed in a traffic accident.  It so happened that the man responsible for the accident was involved in a license for bribe scandal. So Rod said during a debate that the Republican candidate Jim Ryan was ultimately responsible because he was the attorney general at the time and did nothing to stop the scandal from occurring.

Hello? He had nothing to do with it.  The scandal came about AFTER the accident occurred and an investigation into why the man had a license at allHe simply brought up the tragedy so that people would associate Jim Ryan with the man that was involved - George Ryan - who is our current Governor and former Secretary of State.

Now normally, when I become outraged over an incident like this, I immediately want to cast my vote the the other guy.  But I just can't do it.

I cannot vote for Jim Ryan because of one reason and one reason only.  He opposes a woman's right to choose.

Now, as I've mentioned previously, I myself don't think I could ever have an abortion.  It's just not something I could live with; but that's simply my own personal feelings and emotions.  It matters not what anyone else thinks about it - right or wrong - that decision must be made completely by the individual that has to weigh that decision.

I would NEVER judge or scorn a woman because she chose an abortion, nor would I praise because she didn't. I think the problem with most Pro-Lifers is that they go to such extremes, condemning woman that have abortions and praising those that don't.

Believe me, most women don't take it lightly.  The ramifications that come from their one choice, lasts them a lifetime.

I firmly believe that it is completely immoral to let anyone else, especially the GOVERNMENT be responsible for making that decision.  How can a body of Government, MOSTLY MEN, even begin to realize and understand the magnitude of the situation?

It's upsetting to think women could have come this far in life, and men are still touting on about an issue they feel they should control.  Honestly, the only people that should have any opinion in the matter are the man and woman that did the deed and possibly her doctor.  If they can't reach a decision together, then the woman, simply because she is CARRYING the child, must have 51% of the vote.

So I'm abstaining from voting for Governor.

I just can't punch the card for either of them.  I think one is just an ass, or his advisors are, and the other just doesn't understand the term equal rights and freedom of choice.

Now, don't even get me started about the Attorney General Race....
