Taking the Plunge...
It's a warm summer day. You're surrounded by beautiful scenery, trees, grass, a stunning fresh water lake. All you can think about is swimming. Letting the water cool down your skin, feeling breathless from the change from hot to cold to warm again. Refreshed, tingling and alive.
You dip your toe into the lake and it's freezing. You take it out and shiver. You hug yourself and think maybe it's too soon, maybe the water's not ready. You're afraid to put it back, because it's so cold. But you know, in your heart and without a doubt that you have to take the plunge. You have to get in there and you have to jump in all the way in order to bask in the glory. It has to be all or nothing.
It's that moment of anticipation, where you know it might hurt, it could sting a bit, but you want to get it over because you know it's going to be awesome.
It appears that last night, my friend and I - well, we jumped into a lake.
We've been dancing around each other, for well over a month now and last night we decided to swim.
He was out with a group of friends at one of the last Cub's games of the year and I was out with my cousin L visiting from Texas. We met up.
He greeted me at the door and after cute 3 second game of peek-a-boo he put his arm around me as L & I joined the group. He was charming and affectionate as he stood talking to us. Then the next thing I knew he kissed me.
This wasn't just a peck kinda kiss. This was a kiss.
I was sitting at the bar {but with my back to it}, with our friends sitting in a circle around and next to me. He came over and stood directly in front of me and with both his hands - lifted my face up to his and gave me the sweetest, most romantic kiss I've ever had in my life.
In front of everybody.
10 pairs of eyes suddenly jutted from their sockets, but no one said a word.
I was shocked. I didn't know what to do, what to say. I knew a kiss was eventually coming, but I didn't expect it to be there and then.
Then he kissed me again. This time, as another friend commented later, tongue first.
So there it is.
We kissed.
A lot in fact.
AND in front of people {I NEVER DO THAT!}!!!!
My poor cousin came all the way in from Texas to witness that. I was very embarrassed. Luckily, she was thrilled for me and said she couldn't be happier.
When it was time for him to leave {as he had an out of town friend staying with him} he pulled me away from the group. He explained why he needed to go and kissed me some more. He said he'd talk to me in the morning and thanked me for coming out to meet him. He stroked my cheek and kissed me goodbye.
I was left to deal with the questions from the group of friends.
Shock. Surprise. Astonishment. Wonder. They were freaked.
I explained about our flirting game and then asked the question of the night. Were they ok with it?
Of course they were. It was great. It was wonderful. They were happy for us.
They also couldn't wait to hightail it out of there and call everyone that didn't happen to be there!
So we kissed.
We have jumped head first into the murky waters and where we'll swim too - only time will tell.
Something tells me though, that this might be one swim that gets me into trouble. I just hope the good kind of trouble.
Oh, and I also hope I remember where the buoys are.
