Today I met LL, who is to be my fitness coach at the Y. It started off as just an orientation, but as we started talking, she explained this free program the Y has. It’s designed for people that are just starting to exercise and basically it’s simply a motivational tool. You make a 90-day commitment to fitness and a fitness coach (LL) will monitor your progress. They don’t force you, it’s simply encouragement. She’ll help me get started, and keep in contact with me. We got started with a schedule and program that will work alongside A’s. I’m really excited. Since A is a PT out of a private gym, this way I have someone at the Y watching over me and making sure I’m doing the right kind of stuff.
As a side note, I surprised even myself today. I was to meet LL at 5 p.m. and I arrived early – at 4:35. The old Fiz would have sat in her car and read a book. Not the new Fiz. I trekked into the gym and climbed onto the bike for a quick ride. I managed 4.25 miles in about 23 minutes before LL came to collect me. YEA ME!!
Recumbent Bike - 30 minutes Level 4 – 6 miles. I’m getting better!!
I didn’t want to go. It was a cold rainy day and all I wanted to do was lay in bed with my dogs. I got up and went. Does that me I’m motivated or simply scared of A being PO’D at me?
This time I hit the recumbent bike. It has a monitor attached to it that you can either watch TV or surf the Internet on. I chose HGTV and settled in. I choose 30 minutes at Level 3. It was great. I had no problems. I checked my pulse rate several times and it appeared to be at the normal range that I should be at. This was a piece of cake. I managed to bike 5.2 miles in my 30 minutes, which for some people might not seem a lot, but I thought it was pretty darn good for me. I got off the machine, wiped it down and walked away. I felt funky again, with shaky legs. I wondered what this was. This girl looked at me, “Are you ok?”, she asked. “Yep, I just feel a little funky – kinda shaky”. She explained that sometimes when you’re doing cardio for so long {30 minutes plus}, your body gets used to the motion, kind of like sea legs and it takes a moment for you to re-adjust. It seemed like a perfect explanation and I thanked her and walked along. Within minutes I was feeling fine again. Thank God for kind, fit people that know what they’re doing.
I joined yesterday and today was my first time at the Y. I was a wee bit nervous as they took my picture. I looked terrible. I was more scared to go and try to work out. I fumbled my way around to hit the two machines I could use {bike & treadmill}, as my training orientation on ALL equipment wasn’t scheduled for another week. I sheepishly looked around to make sure no gym bunnies were standing around ready to point, gawk and ridicule the fat girl. Phew…none were glancing my way.
I got on the treadmill and set it for 20 minutes, at a difficulty level of 2 per A’s instructions. I started off slow and worked my way up. At 5 minutes I placed it on an incline of 1.5 and set it at level 3 and finally settling in at 10 minutes at a 2.5 incline @ level 4. I finished my 20 minutes with no worries. As I stepped off the machine and walked away, I felt funky, my legs were shaky and I was afraid I was going to faint. I walked outside and as soon as I hit the fresh air, I felt fine.
